What is a Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)?

A tummy tuck procedure, or abdominoplasty, may help you achieve dramatic results through the surgical removal of excess skin, fat, and tissue. Liposuction can be combined with the tummy tuck procedure to further remove fat and contour your abdomen. In some patients, the abdominal muscles can be tightened in order to correct a bulging abdomen. With a tummy tuck, you may enjoy a more toned, smoother abdomen without the extra skin or fat.

How Much Does a Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) Cost?

Your tummy tuck cost will vary according to your unique needs and will be discussed during your consultation. We accept all forms of payment, including credit cards and checks, and also offer convenient financing options.

Why Choose a Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)?

Is excessive fat and skin throughout your abdominal area causing a bulging or sagging appearance? Many patients complain of having a ‘spare tire’ around their abdomen. Often this cannot be corrected by diet and exercise. A tummy tuck may also be the right choice for you in addressing abdominal skin laxity due to massive weight loss or pregnancy. Tummy tucks can also utilize liposuction, including detailed body sculpting, to optimize your outcomes.

Who is a Candidate for a Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)?

Our abdomen is one of the most challenging areas of the body to keep tight and taut. But excess skin and fat in your stomach can be trimmed, tightened and reduced with a tummy tuck. People often report that after their tummy tuck surgery they feel more comfortable in clothes or out on the beach.

What is the Procedure for a Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)?

Conducted under general anesthesia, your tummy tuck incisions begin at the top of the pubic hairline extending upwards to your hip bone. Excess skin tissue is removed and your abdominal muscles may be tightened. Your natural stomach skin is pulled together to sculpt an aesthetic and smooth contour, which is then sutured together. You will be able to resume regular activities within a few weeks while avoiding strenuous activity for six to eight weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

A tummy tuck is a surgical cosmetic procedure that removes the loose, sagging skin covering the midsection. Once the excess skin is removed from the area, it is removed permanently, meaning your results have the potential to last a lifetime. That being said, the results of your tummy tuck may be disrupted in the event of excessive weight gain or pregnancy.
Yes, a tummy tuck removes both skin and the associated fat from the midsection. The addition of liposuction to a tummy tuck allows you to get rid of those stubborn pockets of fat around the midsection before the skin is pulled tight, helping to reveal your body’s true curves.
Yes, it is absolutely safe to have a baby after receiving a tummy tuck. However, we do highly recommend you wait until you are done having children to start considering a tummy tuck. This is because the results of your tummy tuck have the potential to last a lifetime, but may be disrupted in the event of excessive weight gain or pregnancy.
With any surgical procedure that requires the use of incisions, you will have a scar. A tummy tuck surgery typically involves an incision being made from hip to hip just above the pubic area. The scar does soften and fades within a year following surgery. Once the incision is completely healed and the scar has faded, talk to Dr. Dawli about using topical scar creams or minimally invasive scar treatments to help reduce the appearance of your scar.
Returning to your regular exercise routine following your tummy tuck will be a process. We advise you to wait at least two to four weeks to start participating in light cardiovascular activity following your procedure. In about four to six weeks, you should be able to start light lifting with your upper body and lower body. It’s important to keep in mind that everyone heals at a different rate. We strongly advise you to talk to Dr. Dawli before returning to any physical activity.
It is important to be up and walking lightly around your house every hour or so while awake the day you get home from your surgery to prevent blood clots. You should continue to walk every hour or so in the weeks following your surgery to keep your blood flowing. By the second week, you will be able to increase the duration of your walks.
You can begin slowly returning to working out beginning at 4 to 6 weeks postoperatively after your abdominoplasty. You should speak with your surgeon before beginning exercise to make sure you are fully healed. Avoid abdominal exercises for at least 3 months after surgery.
After your tummy tuck, it is important to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle to optimize your results. Once you are fully healed, you should be sure to continue exercising and targeting your abdominal muscles.
Weight fluctuations after your procedure will affect your results, so it is important to maintain a stable weight through diet and exercise after surgery. If you gain a significant amount of weight, you will gain fat again in the abdominal area.
You can begin lower body exercises 4 to 6 weeks after your procedure depending on how your recovery process is going. You should speak with your surgeon and obtain approval before beginning exercises.
